Subversion through proxies

August 11, 2006

The wheels turn slowly here at Feeding The Snake. Just getting the hang of Subversion, several years after everyone else figured out that it was a good idea.

Struggled a bit today trying to get the svn client to tunnel through a proxy. the Unix env variable http_proxy is ignored by svn. Finally dawned on me to read the subversion FAQ, where, of course, the answer can be found.

One must edit their servers file (in ~/.subversion/servers) and set the appropriate variables. I just set http-proxy-host and http-proxy-port to my local proxy, and all worked well.
