The War on Drugs

January 20, 2004

Botany of Desire is a wonderful book, consisting of four plant/human desire combinations: apples/sweetness, tulips/beauty, marijuana/intoxication, and potato/sustinance.

One of the points that author Michael Pollan makes in the book is that the vast majority of the money in the war on drugs has been spent to fight marijuana, despite the fact that no one overdoses on marijuana, and the health and social consequences are (arguably) less than the legal drugs nicotine and alcohol.

There's a nice article today in Wired about how Tommy Chong has become the poster child for the legalize pot generation online.
